On the case of always wearing a leash while using a stand-up paddle board:
How much do you love swimming? Are you always dressed for immersion?
Do you honestly wish to have to swim after your board, if and when you fall off of it?
If not, hear me out, leashes make this problem disappear!
And you also won’t have to worry about your board disappearing!
Pro/pro in my mind.
Wear a SUP leash and once you get used to it, you’ll probably forget all about it.
Attachment: at either ankle or pfd at the side straps or on the back.
Even attach it to a waist belt pfd, if that is your style. Remember, those are only legal if worn.
Pros of attaching your leash up higher than your ankle: it can’t get in your way when moving on the board, and it won’t get stuck in seaweed off the side of your board.
For most common purposes, a SUP leash is the coil type, and should be the length of your board.
